Alora Martin Downie, MSW, RSW
Psychotherapy, LGBTQ Counselling and Psychotherapy, Somatic Psychotherapy, Mindfulness Based Therapy

I am a Registered Social Worker offering individual psychotherapy. My therapeutic approach is warm, compassionate, and experiential. I believe in a holistic approach and the importance of exploring the mind body connection in healing.
I support people with challenges related to anxiety, depression, trauma, loss, unwanted substance use, connection and belonging, relationship difficulties, and stressful changes in life.
I draw from various modalities and frameworks to guide our work. Relational Psychotherapy, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, mindfulness, intersectional feminism and anti-oppression are the basis of my approach.
These terms may be unfamiliar to you and that is more than okay. What it means is that our work begins with creating a safe and supportive environment. I combine talk therapy and mindful awareness of the mind body connection to explore your concerns, develop a deeper understanding and cultivate the change you seek. This may be through helping you calm your nervous system, becoming aware of tension/holding patterns, working with strong emotions that have been suppressed or are overwhelming, working with limiting beliefs, or helping understand and trust your body’s cues more fully. I use a collaborative approach to create space for us to check in with each other throughout sessions.
